Textile StoryJungalee, our in-house design, reimagines the traditional floral block print tradition. Taking its name from the Hindi word for "of the jungle," the motif departs from the ordered delicacy of classical florals, unfolding instead into untamed foliage and wild leaf forms. Familiar botanical references are rendered looser, bolder, and more expressive, bringing a contemporary sensibility to the enduring craft of hand block printing.
Printed on organic cotton and handwoven linen, the collection explores two distinct block-printing traditions: direct pigment printing and discharge printing. In the latter, a pigmented resin is block printed onto the cloth and transformed through overnight steaming, yielding softly diffused forms and blurred edges that lend the surface a painterly quality.
Produced in partnership with a fair-trade block printing workshop in Bangalore, the collection brings together original design, hand craftsmanship, and an ease of wear suited to contemporary life. Relaxed silhouettes, generous proportions, and sculptural design elements create garments that move comfortably between everyday use and more considered occasions.
Rooted in traditional techniques yet unmistakably modern in expression, Jungalee reflects our ongoing interest in the dialogue between heritage craft and contemporary design.
Any variations or irregularities are to be celebrated. They are part of the design & inherent to the handcrafted production process, making this item beautifully unique. Proudly made in India.
