TEXTILE STORY
The Baba Tree Basket Company has spent over two decades safeguarding the rich weaving traditions of the Gurunsi community in Bolgatanga, Ghana. Today, more than 250 artisans continue to practice this time-honoured craft - using resilient elephant grass and their own intuitive sense of rhythm and flow.
Each basket is a vivid expression of that heritage: made entirely by hand, imbued with colour, energy, and intention. The generous curves and subtle asymmetries are not just design elements - they are the weaver’s signature, a quiet echo of the hands that shaped them.
Baba Tree’s commitment runs deeper than design. By nurturing long-term relationships with artisan weavers, they help foster dignified, sustainable livelihoods rooted in cultural preservation. Their design team collaborates closely with Master Weavers to ensure that every piece reflects both authenticity and extraordinary craftsmanship.
Slight irregularities or shifts in form are to be embraced — not as flaws, but as hallmarks of the human hand. Each basket is one of a kind, woven with care and character.
