Pastoral Landscapes, Living Cloth
Across the arid landscapes of Kutch, pastoralist communities and the hereditary Vankar weavers have long shared a symbiotic relationship: the herders provide wool, and the weavers transform it into durable, functional textiles. Generous, layered garments, earthy dyes, and intricate motifs reflect a logic of mobility, resilience, and care. Today, this living tradition continues, sustained by communities who balance preservation with adaptation in a rapidly changing landscape.

What's in a name?
The name House of Wandering Silk grew from journeys, inspiration, and intention. House honours our artisan partners’ homes, Wandering reflects the paths of textiles and my own travels, and Silk celebrates the luxury of natural fibres and nods to the historic Silk Road. Each word embodies craft, care, journey, and connection, capturing the philosophy and spirit that guide HOWS today.

Inspired by the Gyan Mudra, a sacred hand gesture, it reflects the values at the heart of House of Wandering Silk: focus, respect, and the thoughtful exchange of craft. Discover the story behind this emblem and how it continues to guide our work with artisans and textiles.
