A reversible and one-of-a-kind shrug, made from two layers of silk fabric repurposed from vintage saris. The fabric is covered in hand-embroidered katha stitch.
The shrug is a simple design, crafted from a shawl with arm holes stitched into it and endlessly versatile! Wear it loose; wear it wrapped around your body and closed with a belt. Wear it over jeans; over a dress; over a sari; over a shirt or sweater. Wear it in warm weather, draped over your shoulders to protect you from the sun; wear it in cold weather over a sweater and tight around your neck. Wear it inside out. Wear it outside in. You can even wear it upside down to adjust the length at the back. However you wear it, it will look fabulous!

Kantha Sari Shrug | maroon & gold ikat
Our fully reversible, signature Kantha Sari Shrugs are made using two layers of vintage sari fabric, handpicked by us for their fabulous colours and designs and paired piece-by-piece in our studio.
These are stitched together in the style of kantha, in which women hand sew rows of tiny running stitch from end to end to provide strength and enable the recycling of saris. This kantha creates a rich, rippling effect across the fabric and adds a unique texture to the products.
Each piece is unique - you will never see the same combination of fabrics and threads twice. And our kantha is of the highest quality, stitched by women whose families have been sewing kantha for generations in the kantha heartland: West Bengal, India. Any variations or irregularities are part of the design and inherent to the production process.
- Eco: hand made processes mean this item is eco-friendly. All materials are natural and thus bio-degradable.
- Women empowerment: handwork exclusively by women from highly marginalised communities. This work provides their only opportunity for earning income in their villages. The home-based work is suitable for all women and prevents urban migration.
- Ethical: garments are stitched in our Delhi workshop where workers receive well above the minimum wage and enjoy flexible, safe and comfortable working conditions.
