Dervish Robe | nimbu pani
Ultra contemporary colour ways and patterns meet upcycled textiles and a relaxed silhouette in these one-of-a-kind robes.
Each of our textiles carries the story of the effort and skill required to hand spin, weave and embellish it, and, as such, is precious to us. No remnant is too small to keep for future use. This capsule collection of Dervish Robes - inspired by the patchwork capes of wandering dervishes - uses fabric remnants we’ve collected over the last 3 years.
The fabric pieces are first matched together in our Delhi studio. Our partner artisans then carefully cut, patch and sew the scraps together. This outer layer is then quilted to another layer of cotton using a loose kantha stitch. Any variations or irregularities are part of the design and inherent to the production process.
- Eco: use of fabric remnants and hand made processes mean the production is eco-friendly. All materials are natural and thus bio-degradable.
- Women empowerment: patchwork and embroidery is done exclusively by women from highly marginalised communities. This work, which is regular, fairly paid and dignified, provides their only source of income.
- Ethical: garments are stitched in our Delhi workshop where workers receive well-above the minimum wage and enjoy flexible, safe and comfortable working conditions.
